About the event
A guided educational mushroom foraging tour in some of Scotlands' best fungi habitat with Jesse Beaman. We'll be focusing on the main edible summer species and how they are safely identified and responsibly foraged with notes on cooking and preserving. We'll also cover how to distinguish any edibles from dangerous lookalikes. Any other interesting mushrooms or edible plants certainly won't be passed by. We'll cover approximately 1-2 miles during the 2-3 hour tour, with plenty of time for foraging, questions and tasting.
Fungi are responsible for feeding ecosystems, recycling organic matter, driving most of plant life on Earth and challenging our perspective of what it means to be a singular organism. We'll be geeking out on all this and more as we wander leisurly through the forest.
Jesse will be in touch closer to the time with details on the location, which will ALWAYS be within 35 minutes driving fom Castle Douglas. The reason we do this is to allow Jesse to find the best foraging area nearer the time - mushroom growth can be sporadic and we want to find you the best spot.
Waterproof, sturdy footwear is recommended, keeping in mind we'll be off the beaten path on several occasions. Anyone wishing to take mushroom samples home is advised to bring a basket or cloth bag. The Scottish weather is as diverse as the fungi it nourishes... layers and waterproofs are also a must!
